What is the difference between gantry crane and overhead crane?

2023-04-26
Gantry cranes and overhead cranes are both types of cranes used for lifting heavy loads in industrial and construction settings. However, there are some key differences between the two:

1. Design: Gantry cranes are designed with a horizontal beam supported by legs on either side of the load, while overhead cranes are designed with a horizontal beam supported by a trolley that runs on rails attached to the ceiling or overhead structure.

2. Mobility: Gantry cranes are typically mobile and can be moved around a worksite, while overhead cranes are stationary and operate within a fixed area.

3. Capacity: Gantry cranes tend to have a higher lifting capacity than overhead cranes, as they are built to lift heavier loads over longer distances.

4. Cost: Gantry cranes are generally more expensive than overhead cranes due to their larger size and greater complexity.

Overall, both types of cranes have their own advantages and disadvantages depending on the specific application and requirements of the worksite.
